Met Gala 2018: Heavenly Bodies
Yesterday marked the first Monday in May, regarded by many as fashion's most coveted night via the annual Met Gala. This year's theme was "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" - which exhibits a dialogue between fashion and art in religion, chaired by Amal Clooney, Rihanna, Donatella Versace, and of course the lady herself, Anna Wintour. For centuries religious values and narratives have found themselves interpreted in/ by fashion, and vice versa. Word on the street is Vogue's Editor in Chief made a whopping 12 visits to The Vatican over the last two years to make this exhibit a reality; loaning papal garb from the Sistine Chapel sacristy. While admitting that the fashions we see on the red (this year beige) carpet are works of extremely ornate and decadent art, I was generally not pleased with what I saw on Hollywood's most elite. With that being said, there were a number of looks that certainly stood out, and very much kept in-line with the theme. Here's a roundup of some of my favorite looks from last night.
