If you’re headed to Cairo, then you should of course see the Pyramids and the Citadel, but since this trip marks my fourth one, I decided to explore a different side of the city. Here are my recommendations for a perfect Saturday in Cairo.

Start the day in Zamalek Island, the “Manhattan” of Cairo. Check out Mounaya Gallery, one of the first concept stores in Cairo - they carry Sarah’s Bag!

Next door, pop into Nile Art Gallery to get your contemporary art fix. For lunch, head over to Abou el Sid (there are multiple locations but the Zamalek one is my favorite), and order Bisara, Molokheya, and Circassian chicken. After lunch head over to Diwane bookstore for some browsing.

Grab a car to Islamic Cairo, and stop in the Azhar mosque before exploring the souks at Khan el-Khalili. Take a break in front of the Bazar el Prince shop and order sahlab, a delicious orchid-based warm drink topped with nuts. Finish the day back in Zamalek with dinner and sheesha at the incredibly chic Sequoia, and khalas, you’ve just experienced the best day ever in Cairo!
