Tehran & Shiraz

BY Zhila Shariat

Happy 1396, to my fellow Persian peeps! I just got back from an amazing trip to Iran, where I celebrated Nowruz - the Persian New Year.

While Iran may be known for its complexities due to religion and politics, what I love about Nowruz is that it is absent of both, yet celebrated by all! It falls on the first day of Spring, and we all basically wait for the clock to strike the moment that the sun crosses the celestial equator, equalizing night and day, and then sit for a meal of baghali polo and fish, and exchange gifts and fresh Dolla’ bills (or in this case, Tomans).

Here is my journey in photos.
